Default Toggle walk/run

It may look noob, but looking at the hotkey list, I don't see a toggle walk/run command. Looks like you can only run.

yeah you allways run, whats wrong with that?? lol, its like they have never ending energy, but they really couldnt have walk/run because if they did, you prob. would run out of energy, and in pve and pvp you have to keep up with your teammates and if you run out of energy than you cant do that

I can sit, dance, kneel, bow, salute. I can beg and wave, I can point and jump. But I can't walk. I mean, isn't it a little lack? Almost all computer games have a toggle walk/run.

yes, but if they had toggle walk run why would you ever walk?? you can get everywhere faster by running, and on most computer games ive seen with toggle walk/run you either had certain energy or, you had to sneak up on something by walking :/ well i dont think it really need a walk/run toggle, if it was barly used

Yep.

I may want to walk around in outposts, while waiting my team to be completed. I know it is not important. Just a little addition in fact.

I dont want dev to put a kind of stamina thing. It sucks.

Would you also like to creep slowly? Perhaps you can skip as well... not to be mean, but seriously, I just don't understand some of these things. Sure, it might be NICE to throw rocks in a pond and pick flowers and draw in the sand but besides the fact that it's not adding anything... we're not all playing little fairies. I mean, the "mean" characters can't make bowls out of their enemies skulls, so why should all the "nice" characters get to walk around slowly and do all these fancy things?

Other than that... I think development time on the game is better spent doing other things. Even in future expansions. It's not like once the game is released, the entire team gets to sit back and work on all the tiny (and sometimes ridiculous) things like a Hop Scotch arena and a place where you can fly kites.

I'd rather see changes or additions to elements of the game that meant something to the overall general player base, which I don't think is overly concerned with walking.

If you do, that certainly wasn't my intention in the slightest and I apologize. I admit, it probably could have been worded a bit better, but I still feel the same way.

If it makes you feel better, you can WALK backwards... lol

well thats great to know, but if i wanted to see something like walk toggle, i would want arrow toggle, cuse if you talking on chat during pvp/pve, than you cant use the arrows to move so the toggle would make it so you could allways use the arrows but you cant go back and say what you just said (cuse ou have no arrows)

LOL if you see a guy walking backwards in outposts, it's me!

That is exactly what I was thinking of Whosa. Debate is closed I think. Maybe a nice addition, but not important at all for the moment.

I'd like to be able to walk. No, it doesn't add anything, if by "add" you mean any sort of important gameplay functionality. But things that add gameplay functionality aren't the only things worth having.

It's really not all that important, but I'd definately like to see the ability to walk in the future. I'm a roleplayer, and there are plenty of times when I'm roleplaying with my friends that I'd like to be able to have my character walk instead of run. You don't see the point? Fine. You don't have to use it. But good grief, it's not like little extras like this are going to destroy the game. There are all sorts of different people who are going to be playing Guild Wars. Some of them would like to see a few of the things you so readily scoff at as being pointless. No one's going to force you to use them.

As for other things being more important, that's entirely a matter of perspective. Something that you may think of as silly may be important to someone else. Guild Wars has an enormous community and it's going to get even larger after release. That means a lot of diverse tastes. In a community as big as this one, it's absurd to take the stance that the only features that are "important" are those wanted by a particular type of player. There are PvE'ers, there are PvP'ers, there are roleplayers, and countless other types of people. All of their input matters, and nothing is pointless just because one player type out of many doesn't see the reason for it.

Making Guild Wars the most stable and reasonably balanced game that it can be should at the top of ALL players' lists.

I doubt anyone here would rather have a "walk" toggle than something possibly crucial that could better the game in widely important aspects (trading, balance, difficulty, chat filters, more maps, etc.). I can't even hope to guess what it's like at Arena.Net, so who knows how frantic or relaxed they are about time right now... but if they have to answer to little community (small fractions of it) inspired quirks while ignoring gameplay affecting problems (or even obvious things, like armour graphics)... that's not helping anyone.

"Well guys, we got our Panther those earmuffs we wanted... too bad they didn't have time to include our walk animation..."

Again, I'm not trying to start an argument by bashing people's ideas or anything. I'm just stating my opinion, as you have.

if the lack of little things like that or not having riding mounts (which would double the character bandwidth for those who had them) you can protest in the strongest terms by not buying it

if i want to sightsee (and i do frequently) i stop and admire the scenery

then run on

No one's talking about trading a stable game for funky little extras. But whenever things like this are brought up, many people seem to be of the opinion that to even consider adding them is the equivalent of breaking the game, which is absolutely ridiculous. I don't recall anyone saying that they think the developers should drop core issues in favor of trying to rush a bunch of small things in before the game is released. We've simply said that they're things we'd like to see added at some point. No one's on a crusade to destroy the integrity of Guild Wars, here.

As for "protesting" by not buying it, the idea that anyone should abandon a game they've been looking forward to for years the moment they see some features missing that they think would improve the experience is absurd. If that sort of thing were common practice, developers would get no player input whatsoever.

walking adds reality and humanistic characteristics. I would have to agree that although it's useless it's a nice add.

But this game isn't necessarily about nice things ... its about war. If they ever throw in walking or flying kites those peeps should be penalized and make easy prey for whomever. If I ever saw my comrades playing hop scotch ... I think I'd have to hide my banner in shame ...

I have read you a lot since I come in this forum Shrapnel, Leviatar and Lurnaround, and your opinions are always valuable so far for me. I cannot state what is really important to be added or not since I am not a dev. I just don't know what is on the desk. When I started this thread, I did not have in mind to try to influence the dev team to make my char walk and to forget eveything else! And you know what, I am fully-completely agree with you shrapnel and leviatar that devs probably have, as we say in french : "d'autres chats a fouetter", in other words, other more important things to care of.

Peacefully,

There seems to be a general attitude in these forums, every time some new idea is suggested, that the person suggesting it must want the developers to suddenly drop everything they're doing and try to cram it in before release. I don't know why people insist on thinking that way.

As for the game being about war, it's very true that's a large part of it. But it's not the only part. It's also about questing, socialising, etc. Perhaps war is what you choose to focus on, and that's fine, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to. There are going to be people here who want to do things and make use of features that you may not have any use for. That doesn't mean that they don't belong in the game.

Plus, I don't know where everyone's getting things like hopscotch and flying kites and drawing pictures in the sand from. All the man did was say that he'd like to be able to walk.

Is that considered spam if you create a thread addressing this issue? If it is not then why not make one ... because I think your right ... I've seen/and taken part of many threads that did turn into that. All in all the dev's don't really care too much about all our ideas. It's there game, to satisfy the needs of one or a hundred does not address the actual consensus of all who play. Thats there vision. If 200,000 people came up with 200,000 different ideas that THEY thought should happen, will they actually address even one of these ... no. They have there road and there own creative team. We're just here to test and find real issues with gameplay. Things the QA may have missed. I'll keep your suggestion in mind for future posts ... but it might be a good idea to spread that piece of info.
